Homemade Mozzarella Sticks
Homemade Mozzarella Sticks
Ingredients:
16 oz (450 g) block of mozzarella cheese, cut into sticks
1 cup (120 g) all-purpose flour
3 large eggs, beaten
2 cups (200 g) Italian-style breadcrumbs (or plain with Italian seasoning)
½ cup (50 g) grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for extra flavor)
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp paprika
½ tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
Oil, for frying
Marinara sauce, for dipping
Instructions:
1. Prepare the cheese sticks
Cut mozzarella block into 3–4 inch sticks. Place them on a tray and freeze for at least 1 hour (to prevent cheese from melting too quickly while frying).
2. Prepare breading station
Place flour in one shallow bowl.
Beat eggs in a second bowl.
In a third bowl, mix breadcrumbs, Parmesan, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
3. Coat the sticks
Dredge each mozzarella stick in flour (shake off excess).
Dip into the beaten eggs.
Roll in breadcrumb mixture until fully coated.
For extra crispiness, repeat egg + breadcrumb coating a second time.
4. Freeze again
Place coated sticks on a parchment-lined tray and freeze for at least 30 minutes.
5. Fry
Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry mozzarella sticks in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden brown. Do not overcrowd the pan.
6. Serve
Drain on paper towels and serve hot with marinara dipping sauce.
