Fresh Ginger, Lemon & Mint Wellness
Fresh Ginger, Lemon & Mint Wellness Drink
This refreshing homemade drink combines fresh ginger, lemon, and mint for a bright, naturally flavorful beverage. It is simple to prepare and can be enjoyed warm or chilled. It should not be considered a treatment or cure for cancer, diabetes, or high blood sugar. If you have a medical condition or take medication, use it as a beverage rather than replacing prescribed treatment.
Ingredients
- 1 large piece of fresh ginger (about 2–3 inches / 5–7 cm)
- 1 lemon
- 8–10 fresh mint leaves
- 4 cups (1 liter) water
- 1–2 teaspoons honey, optional
- A few lemon slices, for serving
- Ice cubes, optional
Instructions
1. Prepare the Ginger
Wash the ginger thoroughly and peel it if desired. Slice it thinly or grate it to help release its flavor.
2. Simmer the Ginger
Pour the water into a saucepan and add the sliced ginger. Bring the water to a gentle boil.
Reduce the heat and simmer for 10–15 minutes.
3. Add the Mint
Remove the saucepan from the heat. Add the fresh mint leaves and allow them to steep for 5 minutes.
Strain the liquid into a large jug or heatproof container.
4. Add the Lemon
Allow the drink to cool slightly, then squeeze in the juice of one fresh lemon.
Add honey if you prefer a slightly sweeter taste. Stir well.
Tip: Adding lemon after the drink has cooled slightly gives it a fresher flavor.
5. Serve
For a warm drink, serve immediately in a cup with a slice of lemon and a few fresh mint leaves.
For a refreshing cold drink, refrigerate for at least 1 hour, then serve over ice with lemon and mint.
Storage
Store the prepared drink in a covered container or glass jar in the refrigerator and consume within 2–3 days. Shake or stir before serving.
Recipe Notes
- For a stronger ginger flavor, use more ginger or simmer for a few additional minutes.
- For a milder drink, reduce the amount of ginger.
- Do not add honey if you are trying to avoid added sugars.
- Cucumber slices can be added for a refreshing variation.
- This recipe can also be served warm as a simple ginger-lemon infusion.
